Speech! Speech!

(homeschoolers)
Last night was the 4-H County Public Speaking Contest.  There were only two 7th graders competing, Allyson and her good friend Megan (standing in front of her in the photo).
Kaleb competed w/nine other 5th graders, and he won first place!
Allyson spoke about Anne Sullivan, and Kaleb spoke about George Washington Carver.
Since they won first place, they will go on to compete
in the 4-H Regional Public Speaking Contest on February 19th.

This gun is a replica of what John Smith would have used in Jamestown.
Kaleb is wearing the "12 apostles".  These 12 wooden containers were filled with gun powder.  When you see how this gun is fired...by lighting the end of a rope on your gun...you'll know how dangerous having gun powder hanging around your neck could be!  It is probably what caused John Smith's terrible gun powder accident, which sent him back to England to recover.

Daddy emailed this picture to me.
It was taken on the coast of Oregon. Allyson was about the size of a peach in Mama's tummy.
NOW, look at Allyson and Kaleb...so sweet and grown up!
They received plaques at church last night;
Kaleb memorized 1 Thessalonians, and Allyson memorized 1 Peter.

Freshfields Farms

This was a fun indoor meat, produce, and veggies place we went to today for the first time. All the meats are sent to them directly from the farmers as an entire animal and they do all the chopping and packaging there. It was unbelievably cheap.  We bought a few meats and some fresh blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries. I also bought some ribs to cook on the grill.
