**This quote is in a book I am reading entitled "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins. He is a mystery writer in the 1800's. I thought this was really funny.
"It is a maxim of mine that men (being superior creatures) are bound to improve women--if they can. When a woman wants me to do any thing, I always insist on knowing why. The oftener you make them rummage their own simple minds for a reason, the more manageable you will find them in all the realtions of life. It isn't their fault (poor wretches!) that they act first, and think afterward; it's the fault of the fools who humor them."

W. Collins should be horse wipped... along w/anyone else so stupid to believe that garbage!
Was this man married and how old was he when he wrote this? I hope he was kind to his wife as he tried to improve her.
Ok, the author did not believe this. The character that was narrating this book was supposed to be this way. And yes, the man did get married. He married his housekeeper because he figured that if he married her he wouldn't have to pay her to do the stuff she was doing for him like cleaning and cooking.
Oh my gosh this is ridiculous! I am highly offended!! The author obviously kind of feels the same way or his twisted mind would not have even though of something so wretched to write in his book.
