I'll never forget one of the biggest highlights of my childhood! ...hiking over 6,500' to the top of Mount Leconte! All I can say is TOTALLY AWESOME! :) I always keep a view of Mt. Leconte as my desktop background.
I remember this! Wasn't Mama gone somewhere on a trip when Daddy took us on this hike? You always thought of such fun things for us to do together, Daddy!
Weren't we hanging our legs over the edge right here? When I look back I am amazed at how well behaved we all must have been for daddy to trust us all hiking on a mountain like this. Like candace said, one of the highlights of my life also. Didnt we right in the datson to this place.
I believe we rode in one of our many Subes to Mount Leconte, Kristin. And yes, Kristin, it was a treacherous climb...sometimes the trail was so narrow w/a steep drop-off we had to hold onto cables! Right up Mama's alley! :) I sure would LOVE to do it again one day!
We did not have a Subaru at that time. The year you took the hike was Sept. of 89 or 90. Daddy thinks that you drove the brown Toyota Corolla we had to go hiking. We had the Datsun at this time also.
I am sooooooo positive that we took the datsun because I remember like it was yesterday coming back down from the hike and coming out of the woods and seeing the datsun there in the parking lot and it was the only car there. I remember being so glad to see it. I just know it!!!
Well, I remember it being a smaller car then the datsun station wagon...after the hike Daddy was SPEEDING home around the curves to get home to talk to Mama on the phone. On that last big curve that puts you on Patton Ave. from off the highway, I remember gripping the seat! Haha :)
Ok, why do I not remember any of this stuff! I do not remember what car we drove, gripping cables or speeding around curves! The only thing I remember is sitting on that rock eating with our legs hanging over the edge!!
I cant remember for sure if it was the little toyota or the datsun but it was 11 mile hike with about 3,000 ft rise in elevation to the top from where we stated. it took most of the day and it was a piece of cake for all of you little hillbillys.
